CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE 13TH PHILIPPINE MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD
Friday, July 23, 2010
The Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) is inviting all High School students to participate in this year's Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO). The PMO, now on its 13th year, is a national competition designed to select the best secondary students in mathematical problem-solving in the Philippines.
The winners of the PMO will receive cash prizes and will automatically qualify to join the training pool for the 2011 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), from which the our country's representatives to the IMO will be chosen. The IMO is the largest and most prestigious international mathematics competition among secondary school students from all over the world.
A new feature of the 13th PMO is the selection of top students among the first and second year in the national ranking after the area stage. These students will undergo a training/selection program for the planned 2011 Southeast Asian Junior Mathematics Olympiad.
The PMO qualifying round will be held simultaneously in all regions of the country on October 23, 2010. All interested students must send their application form, through their school representative, by September 30, 2010 (Thursday), to the PMO regional coordinator of their region. Additional information, including the questions and answers from last year's PMO, may be obtained from the PMO website: http://www.math.admu.edu.ph/pmo.
The PMO is run by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines through the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), with support from C&E Publications, Business Plus Marketing, Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), and the Foundation for the Upgrading of Secondary Education (FUSE).
